*The Funk 2 will be replaced in early 2018. We encourage our customers to wait for the next version, and not order the Funk 2 at this time.

  • More power, agility, speed

  • Same comfort and ease-of-use

  • Smaller, more efficient planform

  • Adjustable internal pressure

  • Improved transition / carving behavior

  • Improved stability at steepest angles

The new FUNK 2 is a simplified evolution of the FREAK. We took design elements from the FREAK, including sweep, profile, leading edge construction, and profile thickness, and applied it to a new planform based on the original FUNK. The result is a suit with the same fun and forgiving character as its predecessor, but with significantly easier transitions, a higher top speed, and better glide performance.

The FUNK 2, like the original FUNK, is an excellent suit with which to progress through the intermediate stages of wingsuit flying and build the foundation needed to fly big suits.

Our favorite aspect of the FUNK 2 is how easily it adapts to the most common types of wingsuit skydiving, mainly Flocking and Freestyle. For intermediate pilots, there is not a better suit with which to rack up airtime and learn the finer points of formation flying, steep angle flying, carving, and back flying.

Overall, the FUNK 2’s planform lends itself well to intermediate pilots learning more aggressive maneuvers, steeper angles, and rapid transitions, due to initiation and recovery being so manageable. We love how simple and easy this suit is. With no grippers and its short leg wing, we can easily set up floating exits, climb around on the heli skids, take multiple steps on a BASE exit, easily take docks in flight, and throw multi-way linked exits out the door. Straight up, it’s the funkiest suit we’ve flown.

NEW PLANFORM

The FUNK 2’s low aspect ratio wing design, with the surface area located close to pilot, is not a high-performance planform. The principle benefit to this design planform is a forgiving character with excellent instability recovery characteristics. This type of wing also performs well in reduced glide situations, such as during traditional flocking jumps. The concentration of surface area close to the pilot and the lack of surface area near or beyond the hands and feet creates a very “low-leverage” handling that is easy to fly. Generally, the closer the surface area is to your body the easier everything is. The more you increase surface area at the most distant parts of the planform – such as at or beyond hands / feet – the more difficult the suit is to manage. The FUNK 2’s surface area is carefully distributed to be as close to pilot CG as possible.

THE LEADING EDGE

Taken directly from the FREAK, the F2 leading edge is a combination of grainy glideskin and stretch glideskin. The critical areas of the LE are static, and the wrist area provides a bit of stretch for a more comfortable pull and easy brake access. Reaching the toggles / risers is achieved simply by punching forward after your PC toss, and then reaching up. For increased performance and a more aggressive feel, leave in the optional leading edge foam. For more comfort and less performance, remove it.

THE PILOT

The FUNK 2 fits in our range in between the SWIFT 2 and FREAK. It is designed for pilots who already have some wingsuit experience (~100 jumps) and are looking to bridge the gap between larger performance suits, and entry-level suits.

STANCE AND FLYING POSITION

Again, taken directly from the FREAK. This stance is narrower than the original FUNK, and the arm sweep is lower. This has reduced the total surface area, and created more agile and compact handling. FUNK pilots will immediately feel that the F2 is more agile, more solid, and more comfortable at steep angles and during rapid back-to-belly transitions.

SUPER FUNKY

The FUNK 2 is a forgiving and easy to use wingsuit for intermediate to expert pilots. Barrel rolls, back-flying, linked flying, steeper formations, and carving, are all there for the taking. The stable and forgiving design is fun to fly, and at the end of your flight you can reach back for a clean pull and then reach up to control your risers, which is a feature that not all suits in its class offer!

BASE

If you want to get funky at a big steep cliff somewhere, then the FUNK 2 has what you need to get going quickly. Like all of our suits, the BOC deployment is clean and easy thanks to our leading edge / wrist design, and reaching your brakes after deployment is simple and immediate. Do not underestimate the importance of these features, they are very important for use in the skydive and BASE environments.

GRIPPERS

The FUNK 2 is a gripperless design. The thumbloops are optional: some pilots find that they add a level of agility to the suit during transitions and maneuvers while some pilots enjoy flying with hands completely free. When we fly using the thumbloops, our habit is to adjust them to a size that is not too tight. This way, after break-off you can flip them off of your thumb in order to punch forward and reach up for your risers / toggles. If you prefer to unzip your arms instead, you may choose to keep the thumbloops on during deployment.

ADJUSTABLE PRESSURE

The FUNK 2 features zippers placed at the inside arm and leg wing sections. These zippers allow you to choose the amount of internal pressure that is best for your style of flying. Some pilots prefer the zips entirely open, and some pilots prefer them closed. In the open position, the suit will feel “smaller” and more maneuverable. In the closed position, the suit will feel more powerful with higher internal pressure. Depending on your taste and the type of flying you do, adjust the zips symmetrically to tune the pressure.

Features

  • Slick and Supple Leading Edge – The majority of the leading edge is covered in a durable and wrinkle-resistant grained vinyl layer. We moved the arm zipper location on the wing chord which increased the amount of “effective edge”.

  • Force Feed – Our reinforced inlet, with maximum intake to drag ratio. The Funk features a lower profile scoop with higher total volume, for angle flying.

  • Innie-Outie (Base Model) – While in BASE mode, harness is entirely inside the chest compartment for less drag, and more glide (increased surface). There are no exposed holes when in BASE mode as the zippers close off the chest completely.

  • Innie-Outie (Skydive Mode) – While in skydive mode, handles are completely exposed at the chest and easy to access.

  • RAD – Rapid Arm Deployment. An incredibly simple arced cut at the wrist makes it even easier to both reach your PC at pull time, and your toggles during opening. Also makes the BOC pull safe and intuitive.

  • Get Stiffie – The bottom surface of the leading edge is Mylar-reinforced to maintain profile structure and proper feeding of the inlets.

  • Get Stretchy – flexible panels at the shoulders relieve stress on your suit during openings. Also, bar-tacks at key areas help to prevent seam failure.

  • Light Ribs – lightweight, durable, and more stable than mesh, Porcher Sport Skytex is renowned for its mechanical stability. Helps to reduce overall weight and pack volume.

  • Nutsack – A mesh leg wing pocket, for your nuts and stuff. Store your gear close to your center of gravity without having it affect the fit of your suit.

  • Glideskin Wrist – This highly flexible, durable, and wrinkle-free material adds some flexibility to the wrist portion of the leading edge. The profile is solid, and the flexible wrist makes pull-time more comfortable.

  • Airtight Construction – All of our suits are built to the most exacting specifications, and tested for airtight symmetry in our production facility at multiple points along the construction process.

  • Hook Knife-Every suit comes standard with a Carbon Aero Jack hook knife installed on the front of the suit, in a location that is idea.
